| Description: One of many small wrasses that exist by cleaning other fish as "grooming stations." The clients are then groomed, with the Wrasse removing any parasites and as well as feeding off of mucous and necrotic tissue on the client fish. Although the most common of the Cleaner Wrasses, the majority of the fish in this family have an extremely difficult time acclimating to captivity unless kept with a very large community of fish. The intensity of cleaning and grooming of other fish is not related to client size. Most new clients are greeted by a "dance" with the tail shimmying the rear part of the Cleaner Wrasses body in an up and down motion. |
